A close by grade I-III whitewater section can be found on North Platte River; the State line to French Creek segment
| | | is 20 miles long. This section of North Platte River is proposed for raft paddlers of medium know-how. Check the latest conditions before heading out on the whitewater, or else it's not safe. On a good day at Pickaroon you can take a hike along the Medicine Bow Trail. Medicine Bow National Forest is a splendid place to stop at on a delightful day, and there is a delightful hiking trail nearby called the Circle Trail. Coming to this campground is always a great idea. Very picturesque scenery and magnificent skiing is what you get at Snowy Range, and needless to say Douglas Creek flows through this area. nearby is North Gate Canyon. State Forest State Park is both good and picturesque, and it's near Pickaroon, and close by you hit upon the State Line Trail which is a great hiking trail.
