This part of Rio Chama is suitable for whitewater paddlers who have been whitewater kayaking and rafting for some time but who are not yet ready for the exceptionally hazardous rapids. Unsurprisingly, whitewater kayaking and rafting is exciting but hazardous; check current conditions in advance of a trip. Heron Lake State Park is a splendid site, and Heron Lake State Park - Little Oso is not far at all from Canjilon. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing stuff in the San Juan and   Jemez Mountains. Everybody loves El Vado Lake State Park; on a great day you can take a hike along the Hart Trail.
