Escanaba River has a close by whitewater segment; the Boney Falls Dam to CR420 portion is a good 17-mile-from-beginning-to-end type II(III) segment of whitewater. This segment of Escanaba River is suited for whitewater paddlers who have been paddling for a bit but who are not yet ready for the exceptionally risky rapids. Always check the situation in advance of a trip paddling since paddling is a risky pursuit.
