If you're trying to find a category I-IV whitewater stretch to paddle, you're in luck; the Newberry Road to S Laird Road portion is a magnificent 4.4-mile-long piece of Sturgeon River - West Branch. This portion of Sturgeon River - West Branch is a mid difficulty stretch for whitewater paddling. Don't go whitewater paddling in advance of first checking circumstances; it's treacherous stuff.   Twin Lakes State Park is a good site to stretch your legs a bit.
