Wynoochee Falls Campground, Olympic Mountains, Washington     Custom Search   AMENITIES: Restrooms The camping area is right along the pristine Wynoochee River. At this campground there are 12 'hike-in' tent only campsites. While staying here you can enjoy river/stream fishing. Since this is a primitive dispersed camping area, there is no water or restroom provided. Nothing is left except overgrown roads and a couple of holes where there used to be an outhouse. The falls are picturesque and were featured in a 1961 movie ''Ring of Fire'' Yes the Elwha River trail is only 18 miles away but that is by trail straight through the heart of the Olympic Mtns. You?ll have to drive about 15 miles of gravel road to get here. There is a rock pedestal with a missing sign along the Wynoochee road 4 miles NE of   the lake near the end of the road. This marks the parking area and access trail down to the falls. The ? mile trail is interrupted with large ditches to discourage access and camping. The waterfall is only about 100 feet high, (maybe less) but very picturesque, with a large clear basin at its base and an outlet scoured through granite rocks. This primitive campground is situated in an exceptionally gorgeous scene; primitive campgrounds like these are a glorious way to get out in the great outdoors. Lots of people select this campground   so they can go to Olympic National Forest.
