On Rio Chama you come across the nearby Abiquiu Dam to confluence with Rio Grande sector. This is a category I-II, 25-mile-in-distance segment of whitewater. This sector of Rio Chama is suggested for learner raft paddlers. Of course, kayak paddling is exciting but hazardous; check restrictions before you go. There's fine hiking along the Ojitas Polvadera Trail, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always   have a look at close by El Vado Reservoir.
