The 365-foot altitude difference at nearby ski area Appalachian Mountain is great; it has 9 runs covered by 4 feet of ice cold snow every winter, served by 5 ski lifts. The 3.5-mile-from-beginning-to-end Globe Road to Upton portion is a category III+ portion of whitewater on Thunderhole Creek. This part of Thunderhole Creek is  
not a spot for learners to come whitewater paddling solo. Kayak paddling could turn perilous, so check circumstances ahead of going.
