Don't go whitewater paddling before first checking the situation; it's hazardous stuff. Lakes? Sure, Lower Twin Lake is in the vicinity; if the weather is splendid, you can go for a hike along the Lava Butte Trail. You definitely ought to fancy the Clearwater   Mountains.
