The black and red slopes at Purgatory account for 26% of the slopes, and they are really great; beginners and little ones are in luck too, 74% of the 1,200 acres of skiing territory are blanketed by intermediate or beginner slopes. Animas River has a class IV-V stretch   of whitewater nearby. The 2.6-mile-in-distance Tacoma to Rockwood Rail Yard sector is nice to kayak.
