Beachcomber presents itself as a ''camping resort''. A resort it is not - more like
an overcrowded parking lot with a few trees. It may have been nice a few years ago, but it is now way over-crowded. There is barely enough space for a trailer + 1 car, the cabins look dingy and also have not much space. This campground
| | seems to favor those who have permanent seasonal sites, as those seem much more spacious and in better locations.
My husband, 11-month old baby and I visited a family at Beachcomber - we were charged $8 per person (including baby), plus $8 for the car - and we were only staying a few hours! When asked about the baby charge, the rude response was ''it creates waste''. My husband then needed to use the restroom, and was told he would have to pay a pavilion use charge. All around the registration office were signs about additional charges for usage of various facilities.
When we got to our friends' site, it was barely larger than a parking spot (you could really imagine the white
|
lines separating each site), and we could hear conversations from inside the next site's camper.
There were tons of kids on golf carts zooming around, and because the roads are dirt and stone, each cart that went by made a lot of noise and kicked up dust.
There are a few positives: playgrounds for kids, 2 pool areas with kiddie pools (which looked clean, we did not use them), and the lake/beach looked nice as well. When we visited they were having a pig roast, which seems like
a nice idea - we didn't see any roasting pigs however, and those in attendance were under a big tent waiting for their table # to be called so they could get up and serve themselves (think buffet line). There was also an extra charge
per person for the meal, naturally.
Overall I would not recommend this place as any type of vacation. If you're looking to be backed like sardines, pay extra charges for everything you do, use dirty bathrooms, and have lots
of noise around you - this is the place for you. Otherwise stay away! Our friends have already stated they are not coming back, as they have experienced rude service and staff, their facilities are dirty and unkempt, and they feel too crowded with the other people there.
