Allalinhorn (4027 m)
The summit ridge was narrow, and very exposed on the North side, so we visited the summit cross one at a time, with careful belays. The views, ranging from the Monte Rosa Group to the South, the Liskamm and the Matterhorn to the West, and the Mischabel range to the North-West, were quite wonderful.

Allalinhorn (4027m) and Strahlhorn (4190 m )
Ascent to the Allalinhorn (4027m) via the Hohlaub Ridge. The route crosses the 'Hohlaub Glacier' and then leads left-side upwards across the rock band to the summit. Strahlhorn from the Britannia Hut. The route crosses the 'Allalin Glacier' straight to the 'Adler Pass' and leads left to the summit.

Allalinhorn, Switzerland
Allalinhorn (13,212 ft) in the Wallis Alps lies near the town of Saas Fee, a few miles north of the Italian border. It is one of the easier 4000ers (peaks over 4000 meters = 13,123 ft) in the Alps to climb, and the summit offers very good views of the area, including the Matterhorn.

Arolla climbing
Located in the SW of Switserland, Wallis is one of the highest and most glaciated area in the Alps. The area around Arolla has peaks over 4000 meters covered with ice. As I wanted to know how it feels like to walk on glaciers with crampons, it was an ideal place to start. Enough snow, enough ice and enough crevasses ! Just give me enough rope and I will guide you in the world of ice ...

Autumn hike in Wallis
This impressive hike starts at Zinal (1675 m) at the end of the Val d' Anniviers. On the ascent one has a magnificent view of Grand Cornier, Dent Blanche and later the Weisshorn west-face. Definitely the highlight of the tour is the descent via Alp L' Ar Pitetta with a himalaya-like panorama of Weisshorn and Zinalrothorn. Another excellent panorama walk starts at Zermatt leading to the Zmutt glacier - and continuing to the Schönbiel hut.

Berner Oberland - Finsteraarhorn
The starting point of this round trip is the town of Fiesch in the Rhone valley. Via Eggishorn and Aletsch glacier the Konkordia huts are reached. The next day - crossing the Grünhorn pass - leads to the Finsteraarhorn hut from where the Finsteraarhorn is climbed on its west-face. The Fiescher glacier leads us back to Fiesch.

Bishorn (4153) Valais.
Bishorn. 4153 meters above sea level. It is a mere 5 meters in height shy of the majestic Jungfrau. It is known as one of the easiest 4000ers in Switzerland, but make no mistake: it is by no means easy. Relatively speaking it is easy in technical terms, but the air above 4000 meters is thin no matter where you are.

Breithorn, Switzerland
Breithorn (13,661 ft) in the Wallis Alps lies on the main crest which forms the border between Switzerland and Italy. Its presence is rather inconspicuous, as the region is dominated by higher and more famous peaks such as the Matterhorn (14,692 ft), Liskamm (14,852 ft), and Monte Rosa (15,203 ft). In spite of its heavily glaciated appearance, the Breithorn is probably the easiest 4000er (peak over 4000 meters = 13,123 ft) to climb in the Alps, the reason being the tram which one can take from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn (12,740 ft), at Breithorn's western shoulder.

Lauteraarhütte - Ewigschneehorn

Matterhorn (Hörnligrat; 4478 m)
Some day it must be. Every mountaineer will understand me: Whenever you touch the topic of mountaineering in a discussion with the (so-to-say average) non-mountaineer, you end up in the question "Well, if you're a mountaineer, did you make the Matterhorn ?" Further in the east it might be Watzmann or Grossglockner, but in the end everything will reduce to Matterhorn.

Piz Palü (3905 m)
Originally we had the Bishorn in our program, but due to job constrictions we had to replace this three-day trip by something shorter. So the announcement is changed to Piz Palü. The route from Boval hut is less suited than from Diavolezza, because the latter one has about equal height differences for the two days, about 1000 meters each. Finally we have to drive back home on Sunday, and therefore 1500 meters or co could be a bit much in September.
