Canary Islands: La Gomera
Hiking report

Erwin Harkink’s Hiking Site, Canary Islands
Gomera is a real hikers paradise there are plenty of hiking trails over old "caminos" formerly used by shepherds and local people.

FUERTEVENTURA - Canary Islands
Description of good local hikes.

Hiking in Mallorca
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands which lie in the Western Mediterranean Sea off the coast of mainland Spain. As a holiday destination it's better known for sun and booze package deals to horrid concrete nightmares such as Palma Nova and Magaluf. However the island has another side which offers some great hiking. Without much hassle it's easy to get up into the hills around the town of Soller for some excellent day walks.

Hiking in the Andalucia region of Southern Spain
The countrside in much of Andalucía is breathtaking and, one of the best ways to appreciate the diversity and beauty of the natural scenery here, is via foot.

Hiking through Basque country
The trip to the basque region was mostly about hiking in a few of the mountain ranges that are to be found in the north of Spain

La Palma
This page describes an 8 day holiday to the island of La Palma during which several hikes were taken.

Pico de Teide (3715m), Tenerife
Pico de Teide, officially the highest mountain in Spain, is actually on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. It is a popular tourist destination since there is a cable car most of the way up. Although it would be perfectly possible to walk up from sea level over two or three days, most walkers, like those riding the cable car, will commence their ascent from the crater of Las Cañadas at an altitude of about 2350m.

Sierra Nevada
The trip to Andelucia was mostly about hiking in the Sierra Nevada and afterwards visiting the treasures of Granada, Cordoba and Sevillia

Spanish Pyrenees, The GR11 from Col du Somport, via Ordesa to Bielsa
Like the GR10 on the French side of the Pyrenees, the well marked GR11 on the Spanish side runs from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. Also like the "Grand randonnée", the Spanish "Senda Pirenaica" runs up and down the valleys which are directed North-South. Therefore, although it is not a difficult path, it is definitely tiring. The Spanish path is more quiet then the French one because the Spanish Pyrenees are far less populated.

Tenerife and La Gomera
Gomera is a real hikers paradise there are plenty of hiking trails over old "caminos" formerly used by shepherds and local people. The north side of the island is rather green compared to the dry southern part.

Tenerife winter walk
It's surely a matter of taste which of the Canarian Islands one prefers. The highest summit however can be climbed on Teneriffa - if you' ve got the permit for the last 150 meters. The Teide is - with its 3718 m - a serious tour basically in winter conditions (we found it cold enough 1000 m lower) and is normally combined with an overnight stay at the Refugio de Altavista. Guajara on the opposite side is 1000 m lower but also an excellent panorama summit. Nice walks can also be done in the Teno range on the west side of the island as well as in the Anaga range.
