Baikal - The Pearl of Siberia
As the vast evergreen forests of Russia's Siberian taiga extend southward toward Mongolia, the ground rises and the terrain becomes more varied. The border between Siberian Russia and Mongolia is a natural divide here, with rugged hills and mountains forming series of wrinkles between the sprawling Russian forests to the north and rolling grasslands to the south. About midway along this border, in a gigantic stone bowl nearly four hundred miles (636 km) long and almost fifty miles (80 km) wide, lies almost one quarter of the all the fresh water on earth--Lake Baikal.

Irkutsk and Lake Baikal
In the morning, we toured Irkutsk further, starting with the Icebreaker Angara, which used to operate as a ferry on the Angara River (the only river which flows out of Lake Baikal, though several flow in) and is now a museum.
Kamchatka
A trip through one of the most beautiful parts of Russia, Kamchatka. On this page you can find the story, pictures and information.
Kamchatka
The Kamchatka Peninsula, one of the most easterly parts of Russia and all Asia, is an unforgettable land marked by contrasts: ice and fire, geyser-studded deserts and lush vegetation. From a geological standpoint it is a young region. And it is young as far as tourism is concerned, too.
Pamiro-Alai
Mysterious, majestic, wild mountain system of Pamiro-Alai, investigated only in a few, is situated in the Middle Asia to south from Ferganskaya valley between Dushanbe and Samarkand towns. With its name to be translated from Percian as "The World's roof Paradise", it's composed of a lot of rock huge bastions, stretching for 800 km between Pamir itself and Tien-Shan along five main ranges: Alaiskiy, Turkestanskiy, Zeravshanskiy, Gissarskiy and Karateginskiy and conventionally divided in four regions such as: Fanskie Mountains together with Zamin-Karor group, Aksu & Sabakh regions, Asan-Usen & Matcha region and finally High Alai (Kok-Su and Dugoba regions), where there are a lot of summits higher 4000 meters and not less then thirty ones are even above 5000 meter.
Risk Kamchatka page
There is an innumerable number of mountains on earth. All the volcanoes are known to scientists and counted. Some are active and you can go and take in that grand sight. The names of the beautiful few, high and snow-clad, are well known to lay public - Fujiyama, Ararat, Kilimanjaro and some others. Still, with all their irresistible aesthetic appeal, each of them is one and only feature of the landscape. In this respect Kamchatka Peninsula is a unique place. The volcanoes here, high, snow-clad and from time to time erupting are put into exceptionally scenic mounting: lower mountain groups and ranges with wide green valleys dividing them, wild taiga, fast and clear rivers, ocean coasts. The famous Geyser Valley which, taken apart, could easily make the tourist industry of a small country, is just one of many places of interest here.
