Hunting Rifles by Winchester
Simplicity breeds reliability. As a Super X2 fires, the self-contained piston assembly moves the composite gas sleeve rearward under gas pressure, unlocking the bolt with a single rearward push from the actuating rod. No action arms are required so there are no large openings to allow gas residues into the action. The piston has no external O-rings or attached linkages -- it is one self-contained unit. The piston acts as an automatic valve: with light loads it utilizes virtually all gases directed to it, and with heavy loads it vents away excess gases. The result is more consistent bolt speed regardless of the loads you shoot. You can see it in the consistent ejection path of empties. The gas system is the key to the Super X2's reliability and versatility.
