High temperatures at Oregon Caves National Monument during the warm days of summer are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Oregon Caves National Monument descend into the 30's. If you came for an overnight stay De witt's Town and Country RV Park is a wonderful place to camp, and don't leave Oregon Caves National Monument without first checking out Lime Rock. Oregon Caves National Monument has a large quantity of natural prettiness; it's a spot where everyone has a good time. Oregon Caves National Monument gets lots of water; December is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is July.

Oregon Caves National Monument is small in size, 480 acres, but rich in diversity. Above ground, the monument encompasses a remnant old-growth coniferous forest. It harbors a fantastic array of plants, and a Douglas-fir tree with the widest known girth in Oregon. Three hiking trails access this forest. Below ground is an active marble cave created by natural forces over hundreds of thousands of years in one of the world's most diverse geologic realms.

TRAVEL BASICS

Operating Hours, Seasons
The Monument is open all year for hiking, snow shoeing and other similar outdoor activities. Access to the interior of Oregon Caves is only by guided tours. The cave tour schedule for the spring through fall of 1999 is as follows:

Spring: March 15 - April 30: 10am - 4pm Tours given at 10, 11:30, 1, 2:30, 4 May 1 - May 25: 9am - 5pm Tours given on the Hour

Summer: May 26 - Sept 4: 9am - 7pm Tours given on the hour and half hour.

Fall: Sept 5 - Sept 24: 9am - 5pm Tours given on the hour. Sept 25-Dec 3: 10am - 4pm Tours given at 10, 11:30, 1, 2:30, 4

Winter: Cave Tours CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED

Getting There
PLANE - Nearest airport is in Medford about 70 miles from the Monument

CAR - Follow maps to the monument.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION - No public transport available in this region.

Weather & Climate
Rain in the spring and late fall. Snow during the winter months. Warm and humid during the summer.

Accessibility
Only the first room of the cave is accessible for wheelchairs. No canes allowed in the cave due to safety issues. We are working on developing accessible trails.

Getting Around
Vehicle access is available only to the historic district. Hiking on steep trails is the only other way to see the monument.

During summer months (June 23 - September 3), the last tour of the day (7:00pm) is a historic candlelight tour. Cost for tour: $8 adults, $5.50 juniors Tentative summer schedule: June 23 - Sept 4

Fees for individuals with special park passes FREE for families with National Park Pass or Golden Eagle Card FREE for Seniors with Golden Age Pass FREE for families with holders of the Golden Access Pass (All these passes are on sale at Oregon Caves National Monument) Fee for individuals without special park passes listed above $7.50 adults $5.00 juniors (16 and under)

OFF-TRAIL CAVE TOUR
$25 for One Time
During summer months, special off-trail cave tours are offered at 10:00am every day. Tour requires crawling through narrow passageways and climbing slippery surfaces. Due to the strenuous nature of the tour, participants should be in good physical condition. Total length of tour (including outfitting): 4 hours. Minimum age: 16 years. Cost of tour: $25 Tentative summer schedule: June 23 - Sept 4

SPECIAL TOURS FOR SMALL CHILDREN
Free!
Children under 42' in height are not able to go on standard tours of the cave. Check with NPS about special tours for children too small to go on regular scheduled cave tours. Cost of tour: FREE Tentative summer schedule: July 1-Aug 15. Times vary depending upon demand.
