Kaintuck Trail
...t I have ever seen. From the top, you will not know that you are on a bridge. From the bottom it looks like a large, deep cave through which light doesn't travel because of a bend in the tunnel. Follow the trail around the hill and you will find the other opening. Next time I will bring a flashlight so that I can explore a little.

The trails are popular with horseback riders and are as wide as sidewalks most of the time. In most places and the footing is good. A small percentage of the trail is made up of loose rock that can be bad for a weak ankle.

My only complaint is that the map I have is not accurate and the markers on the trees don't lend much confidence. Today I wound up walking an extra two hours because of a wrong turn. Looking at the Internet maps, I still can't find the path I was walking or the fenced meadows. In one spot the trail went through a chained gate. I didn't know if I would be trespassing so I turned right, followed a path around the field and found myself on some dirt road that is not marked. Maybe the next time the park service is out...

Also available is a boat ramp, camp store, pavilion, stables for horse boarding, and a RV dump station. Pets are Welcome. We are close to many natural attractions such as Duerson Slide, Gollahon Spring, Kaintuck Trail, and Poole Hollow. There are just too many to name. Arlington is also within a half hour of Ft. Leonard Wood Army Base, Univerisity of Missouri-Rolla, and many local wineries. Arlington has something for everyone and we are located on the famous Route 66, where so many American dreams have been born. Hope ...

Picture of the popular fish pond built by George Grant Prewett and his son Vernon at Stony Dell Pool along the Freemont Trail(what would later become Route 66 and even later IH 44) in the 1930's. This structure is one of the few remaining today of Stony Dell....

Picture of the entry to the Stony Dell Swimming Pool during WWII (early 1940's).  One of the busiest recreation spots in central Missouri during that time and a popular weekend hangout for the troops just up Route 66 at nearby Ft. Leonard Wood. My G-Grandfather (George Grant Prewett and his son Vernon) built, owned and operated Stony Dell through much of the first half of the 1900's.  My mother, Virginia Irene (Prewett/Beard) Filleman was raised there....
