Millerton Lake State Recreation Area
14 miles away I agree that Millerton is a wonderful place but the ''summer temps'' are typically close to a hundred. Not 80, so be prepared and I wouldn't say it ''gets lots of rain.''...madera side camp ground by boat launch...
Badger Pass
28 miles away Badger Pass is the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard. It has a really long bunny slope, and all the other trails are pretty easy too. The problem is that once you know how to ski without a V-shape thingy the place has little to offer. The staff is very friendly though....
Sierra Summit
| 48 miles away Sierra Summit is located in the Sierra National Forest, just 65 miles northeast of Fresno at Huntington Lake. The resort offers over 1600 feet of vertical serviced by seven chairlifts and 4 surface lifts with terrain to suit all ability levels. There is slopeside lodging at the Sierra Summit Inn with a full service rental and repair shop, sports shop and snowsports school. Dodge Ridge
55 miles away Dodge Ridge is a great place for families and beginner skiers! You can't lose your kids like you can at the bigger resorts. They have a great all-day ski school program. They recently put in a new lodge, now all they need is some snow-making equipment....Dodge Ridge takes great pride in their reputation as a family-friendly destination and the new spacious Family Lodge that opened last season was designed with your family in mind. Inside, you will find an expanded Children's Snowsports Center, full service Ticketing & Guest Services Center, fully-equipped day-use locker rooms, and a cozy bistro. Guests will also enjoy our newly remodeled rental center. The rental center features improved guest flow, which makes renting your equipment quick, easy, and will have you on the slopes in minutes. With an improved rental center comes new top-of-the-line rental equipment from Elan, Dalbello, and Rossignol. To further enhance your tree skiing experience, Dodge Ridge spent the summer removing boulders, stumps, and scrub brush from some of our featured runs. Parking at Dodge Ridge has been improved as well by repaving and expanding our preferred parking lot with room for more than 100 vehicles....
Kirkwood
83 miles away Kirkwood Mountain Resort is located on Scenic Highway 88 at Carson Pass. Known for it's fantastic terrain and incredible amounts of annual snowfall, Kirkwood Mountain Resort is a ''must-see'' for visitors to Lake Tahoe. Home to Expedition: Kirkwood, California's only all mountain and backcountry education program, Kirkwood offers skiers and riders the opportunity to push their skills to levels never imagined....
Heavenly
95 miles away Heavenly is a mountain in two parts. One in NV and the other on the Lake in Tahoe. The Tahoe side gives you casinos and all the resort amenities. The NV side, reached by the Kingsbury Grade (a heck of a drive) is how the locals get to Heavenly and is barebones. You need to pay attention to where you are and when on this mountain because crossing from one side of the mountain to the other takes time and the right lifts which are all subject to closure (especially with the wind). So plan ahead. The Tahoe side has the bulk of the long runs and the views of the Lake. The NV side is more intricate and can be a refuge from the crowds as the entire state of CA seems to show up periodically. If you want to boom & zoom on your board stay on the Lake side. If you want to work it go to the NV side. Overall, a pretty good mix of runs, spectacular views and decent snow. When the map shows a catwalk expect to walk. Some of them are uphill and less than fun - again its worse when the wind is up. Ridgeline is tops for views. Board on....
