Heavenly
 | 85 miles away Heavenly is a mountain in two parts. One in NV and the other on the Lake in Tahoe. The Tahoe side gives you casinos and all the resort amenities. The NV side, reached by the Kingsbury Grade (a heck of a drive) is how the locals get to Heavenly and is barebones. You need to pay attention to where you are and when on this mountain because crossing from one side of the mountain to the other takes time and the right lifts which are all subject to closure (especially with the wind). So plan ahead. The Tahoe side has the bulk of the long runs and the views of the Lake. The NV side is more intricate and can be a refuge from the crowds as the entire state of CA seems to show up periodically. If you want to boom & zoom on your board stay on the Lake side. If you want to work it go to the NV side. Overall, a pretty good mix of runs, spectacular views and decent snow. When the map shows a catwalk expect to walk. Some of them are uphill and less than fun - again its worse when the wind is up. Ridgeline is tops for views. Board on.... |
