Eau Claire River
We attempted too kayak this run. I guess there are two entry areas to the falls themselves, and a bridge up stream where one can put in. Went to both parking areas and sheriffs at both sides. We lost interest. We stayed in a motel in Eau Claire for the night, NO CAMPING. Park closes at dark or something; stay west of the Missouri river. The falls themselves are just a couple of chutes, nice place to camp, but would be tossed in the local jail; I'm certain with the looks we were given by the cops. Freedom in America is lost, place is swarming with cops. Stay in the west. Water is colder but, at least one can camp for a few days on a float....

Chippewa River
14 miles away
Went too Eau Claire, neat little waterfall below dam. Had to park away from where you put in. Dag kayaks to the no loading unloading zone that is paved, weird place this whole area is. Float to take out down stream. Neat float in the little down town area. Saw Eau Claire river where it enters the Chippewa. No rapids to speak of just shallow areas that look sorta white, seems if you have long hair and out of state plates you're just about under arrest in this whole area. Never seen so many peace officers in my life. Only time on the whole trip we felt relaxed was 3ish miles of the coast by Bayfield Wisconsin. Whole place is a police state. All the guide books hype Wisconsin. I will stay in big sky country, where one can least feel sorta free. It's the middle of winter and just reviewing where I was on my travels. Have a bad taste of the whole area , thank you....

Holcombe Flowage

Eau Claire River

Not worth the effort shallow keel destroying area. Drag drag drag your boat harshly down the stream. It's an atv area like buzzards everywhere, have too listen too them. Everyday, no fish in the puddles, and they have a biolagoon. That is city waste pumped from miles away that spills and turns the water poison. Better off paddling where they welcome paddlers, stay out of Eau Claire county is my advice. Oh and i found out too late. One cannot camp along the rivers in Eau Claire county. NOW THAT'S AWEFULL in every sense, go further north , or out of state , terrible place that area is....

Mount La Crosse

Mt. La Crosse is a great place to ski and is a convenient drive for many. There are enough challenging runs to keep you busy and a race course is available on Sundays. The Nastar course on Mt. La Crosse seems more difficult than in Beaver Creek, CO. They have a variety of runs and a terrain park. There are no hotels at the base but most are a ten minute drive away....
