The Route 50 to Route 7 portion has a length of 14 miles; you encounter this segment of whitewater on Shenandoah River. It's a grade I(II) segment. It's possibly okay to go whitewater kayaking and rafting on this segment of Shenandoah River even if you feel your whitewater kayaking and rafting capabilities aren't very magnificent. Don't go whitewater kayaking and rafting in advance of first checking current conditions; it's risky business. Good hiking is available along the Belle Meade Linden Trail, and in case you are trying to locate a bowling alley close
 
by, Pikeside Bowl is close to Rod Hollow Shelter - Appalachian Trail. If you love the outdoors you'll love it here in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
