 having an elevation variation of 570 feet is Section Line Trail. Going for a backcountry hike beats anything; the 6-mile-in-length Minetop Trail is in the vicinity; it has an altitude variation of 931 feet. More or less four and a half hours of tough backcountry backpacking on the Minetop Trail is time well expended. A good close by backcountry hiking trail featuring a variation in height of 615 feet is Copple Butte Trail, a splendid 7.7-mile-from-beginning-to-end trek. The Copple Butte Trail is difficult; it requires about six hours to trek. John Day Fossil Beds National Monument is a pleasant local destination here at John Day River - Mallory Creek; John Day River - Mallory Creek is right  
by the Copple Butte Trail. These mountains rock, just check out all the exciting stuff to do in the Blue Mountains. Wrightman Canyon is a fine location to visit close by, and hiking is a popular thing to do around John Day River - Mallory Creek; Section Line Trail is a nice local trail.
