There's a nice 4-mile-in-distance grade IV-V+ whitewater segment on Black Brook close by, the Devils Den to Ellis River section. This segment of Black Brook is a challenging segment for whitewater kayaking or rafting. Of course, whitewater kayaking or rafting is cool but hazardous; check restrictions prior to departure. Hiking along the Old Speck Mountain Trail is great fun; the top of Hall Mountain is easily distinguished from Hall Mt Lean-to - Appalachian Trail. These mountains rock, just look
 
at all the exciting stuff to do in the White Mountains. There's wonderful hiking along the Angel Falls Trail, and you can hit the slopes at Sunday River in close proximity.
