There's more to do near Thistledown other than just hanging out such as swimming, fishing, whitewater paddling, hiking, and playing golf,   so you won’t get bored. The Ouray to KOA campground segment is a wonderful 2.2-mile-in-length type V+ run of whitewater on Uncompahgre River. Raft paddlers on this run of Uncompahgre River should have quite some skill in whitewater kayaking and rafting. Don't neglect to check the latest conditions previous to going whitewater kayaking and rafting to ensure your wellbeing. A great location like San Juan National Forest close to Thistledown is too glorious to leave out, and going for a horse ride at nearby Deb's Livery is always a fun thing to do. All year is a great time in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains if you have a thing about the outdoors. Don't leave Thistledown without going   to Ridgway State Park, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Bear Creek Trail.
