Take a side tour to La Canada del Guajalote; Coyote Creek State Park is a delightful location to stretch your legs a bit. During the summer, highs commonly are in the 80's at Trails End RV Park. If you haven’t been to Fort Union National Monument, you should schedule some time for it if you're here; going for a hike on the Santa Fe Trail is always a great adventure.
A visit to New Mexico is not complete without some camping. This is no location for people who don’t like to enjoy themselves. The great folks of Rainsville like to hang out close by, obviously you could also stop at Shufeldt Lake since you're here; it's not far at all.
