Forest Glen Preserve, Illinois Custom Search   Forest Glen Preserve offers many entertaining things to do and has a great campground. Illinois hospitality is abundant and nearby recreational attractions are abundant. If playing golf is your game, you have your choice of several courses all within 10 miles. There include Wolf Creek (east of Danville), Blue Needles (west of Catlin), Harrison Park (Danville), and Turtle Run (north Danville). If canoeing or kayaking is your thing, 4 major rivers are       close-by, including the Vermilion River at Forest Glen, the Salt Fork River, the North Fork River, and Illinois' only national scenic river, the Middle Fork. Forest Glen also offers canoeing on Willow Creek Pond. Life's too   short not to enjoy all the attractions in close proximity to Forest Glen Preserve. A visit to Kennekuk County Park or Kickapoo State Park while you are here at Forest Glen Preserve is a tremendous idea. Fish 170 acre Lake Mingo at Kennekuk County Park or 1,000 acre Lake Vermilion, both on the west side of Danville. Rent paddle boats or canoes at Lake Mingo or go jet skiing or power boating at Lake Vermilion. Heron County Park, on the north end of Lake Vermilion       offers a handicapped accessible tower to view bald eagles and great blue herons. A 950 foot floating boardwalk is nearby. Besides camping at Forest Glen Preserve, hike the 11 mile River Ridge Back Pack Trail or numerous other nature   trails around the park. Visit the Pioneer Homestead and take part in the production of pure maple syrup in early March. The park also offers an arboretum, 40 acre prairie, and tree research area. Climb the 72 foot observation tower for a spectacular view of fall foliage. Hunting opportunities are also nearby including the Babe Woodyard Recreation Area, the Middle Fork Fish and Wildlife Area, Kickapoo State Park, Kennekuk County Park, and a limited area at Forest Glen Preserve.   AMENITIES Tent camping is available - Tent camping is also allowed on the River Ridge Back Pack Trail. RV hookups are available - 28 RV hookups - We have 50/30/20 amp electrical service but no water or sewer hook-ups at individual sites.  Water is available throughout the campgrounds and 2 dump stations are on site. Pets are allowed - Must be on a leash Campfires are allowed - Firewood for sale. Firewood cannot be brought in from quarantine areas affected by the Emerald Ash Borer.
