| | History of Cotton Patch:
Historic Cotton Patch Gold Mine & Campground is located in Stanly County, in the town of New London. This small town in North Carolina has a rich history of Gold Mining.
Cotton Patch Gold Mine began its run in the 1860's. A large vein of gold was discovered near a cotton patch off Gurley Road. They began to mine the gold, removing tons of material. The mine eventually closed, but was reopened in 1958 after a new vein was discovered.
In 1961, the mine opened for panners and rock hounds. Today the mine continues |
to produce gold. The gold is mixed with placer material and also found buried in white quartz.

Try your hand at washed placer gravel or crushed gold bearing vein rock mined from the Cotton Patch property. Pan by the bucket, by the tractor load or by the day. Bring your own pans, sluices and supplies or rent ours Cotton Patch Gold Mine is now an Official GPAA (Gold Prospectors Asssociation of American) Member. Show membership card for 10% discount on our mining supplies.
Panning:
Pan for gold in one of our many stand up panning troughs. Easy on the back and fun. We supply the pan, | |

material (dirt)... you supply the excitement of finding gold! No reservations needed to pan...just stop on in, we'll have a spot for you and instructions if needeed.
Magic Spiral Wheels:
Rent one of our Gold Magic Spiral Wheels. Just slowly scoop in the material and
let the Magic Wheel do the rest. All the gold collects in the very center of the wheel.
Sluicing & Hibanking:
Reserve your spot in the creek for Sluicing, Power Sluicing or Hibanking. Take prospecting to the next level... it's simple to learn and fun to watch the gold

There's delightful hiking along the Uwharrie National Recreation Trail; probably you're looking for nearby
lakes? Sure, Reservoir Lake is just a very short distance away. Any time is a good time at Cotton Patch Gold Mine if you like the outdoors. If you come at the right time of year, Rocky River offers some magnificent whitewater, and there are plenty of folks from New London here
at Cotton Patch Gold Mine. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Cotton Patch Gold Mine; Uwharrie Jeep Trail is a perfect local trail, and Uwharrie National Forest is a good site to go.
All the water falling down from the sky makes Cotton Patch Gold Mine a wet spot; all through
the month of June you get the most rain around here while April is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime at Cotton Patch Gold Mine comes with high temperatures in the 90's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 60's. During the wintertime the highs are generally
in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Cotton Patch Gold Mine. There are some glorious whitewater spots on Yadkin River; obviously, everyone loves Morrow Mountain State Park.
This campground has so much. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Uwharrie River, and if you're a golfer then a wonderful close by course is Mountain Brook Golf Course.
