The class III-IV Hell's Crossing to American Forks sector of American River is 4.7 miles long.   This bit of American River is well suited for raft paddlers who have been whitewater rafting and kayaking for some time but who are not yet ready for the exceptionally hazardous rapids. Whitewater rapids are hazardous matters, so you have to check the situation before heading out.
