Bear Creek Campground, Olympic Mountains, Washington
|
| | Why is it called Deadmans Hill? There is supposed to be a forest road that navigates the north side of Deadmans Hill which is actually a series of mountain tops covered in thick forests about 2,500 feet tall. I have camped at Bear Creek since the summer of 2003 and it is really in the center of everything in the North Olympic Peninsula. This is the best area I have ever camped at in the US but there is no hot shower. Stars on a clear night are so great and the cool nights are appreciated even when it is really hot over in Seattle. Go for a hike on the Bogachiel Trail, and Bogachiel State Park is a magnificent place. If you want a good time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Bear Creek Campground. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Soleduck River, and going for a hike on the Pass Trail is always a
| pleasant adventure. High temperatures at Bear Creek Campground through the summertime months are in the 70's with overnight lows in the 40's. Highs through the winter are usually in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Bear Creek Campground. Just can't get enough of the Olympic Mountains. A nice place to check out in close proximity to Bear Creek Campground is Schutz Pass, and Deadmans Hill is picturesque and can be observed from here. Bear Creek Campground mostly gets much rain; the month with most of the rain is November, and July | |
|
is the month with the least moisture. Loads of fun is at this campground. If you're popping by Bear Creek Campground from Beaver, you won't be the only one, and good hiking is available along the Bogachiel-Hoh Trail. This campground has it all. If you come at the right time
of year, Calawah River - North Fork offers some wonderful whitewater, and close by you hit upon the Rugged Ridge Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail. And that's not all the things to do here in the Olympic Mountains. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Soleduck River, and if you're looking for some flowing water? Try Bear Creek.
