Sherando Lake Campground, Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia
|
| | Well me and my family have been going to Sharando Lake ever since I was born and we havn't gone anywhere else I love sherando and I can't wait to go back for another memorable camping weekend! Says Brooke
As close to perfect a camping experience as you can get: 1) Private, secluded, spacious campsites 2)access to flush toilets and showers, 3) a breathtakingly beautiful lake/swim area 4)hiking trails. WORD OF CAUTION: in-season, all sites are snapped up by Thurday noon for the weekend. Come on Sunday for best selection or before Thursday if you |
want a shot at a campsite. They don't take reservations (as of 8/2006) Wish they would so everyone could have a shot at a weekend camping trip there, not just the locals who can zip in and set a few camping chairs on the sites on Thursday to claim it for the weekend. Says Melissa
| My grandmother has camped there nearly every year for the past 30yrs and she got me addicted 9 years ago and now it's my tradition. It's clean, safe, and comfortable. It has some great trails, a perfect little beach, a very well-trained staff of rangers and volunteers, and if you stay just once you'll want to come back. I love Sherando Lake! And I'm coming back in just a few weeks! Says Rita
If you're interested in hydro structures, you can visit Sherando Dam, and if you come at the right time of year, Tye River - North Fork offers some delightful | |

whitewater. This campground is so splendid. Take a hike on the Stony Run Trail; get your pulse rate up on the splendid whitewater of Back Creek - South River Tributary. This is a splendid campground. Sherando Lake Campground is right by the Kennedy Ridge Trail; the summit of Kelley
Mountain can be seen from Sherando Lake Campground. That right there is a load already, but it carries on; Sherando Lake Campground has it all. There's great hiking along the Mills Creek Trail, and this is a popular spot for folks from Roseland. Yeah, come up here to the Blue
Ridge Mountains for a delightful time. If you get bored of Sherando Lake Campground, you could also pop by nearby Upper Sherando Lake, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Rockfish River - South Fork. Be careful coming to the Blue
Ridge Mountains, you might not ever wanna return back home again. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Turkey Pen Ridge Trail; you can hit the slopes at Wintergreen in close proximity. Sherando Lake Campground gets a common amount of annual precipitation; August is when you
get the most rain here; February meanwhile is the driest month. Williams Branch is one of the streams nearby that might be worth taking a look at, and the White Rock Gap Trail offers hiking at its best. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Sherando Lake Campground. Once the
sun is down it descends down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; overnight lows at Sherando Lake Campground during the winter generally dip into the 10's.
