Sherando Lake Campground, Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia

Well me and my family have been going to Sharando Lake ever since I was born and we havn't gone anywhere else I love sherando and I can't wait to go back for another memorable camping weekend! Says Brooke

As close to perfect a camping experience as you can get: 1) Private, secluded, spacious campsites 2)access to flush toilets and showers, 3) a breathtakingly beautiful lake/swim area 4)hiking trails. WORD OF CAUTION: in-season, all sites are snapped up by Thurday noon for the weekend. Come on Sunday for best selection or before Thursday if you
want a shot at a campsite. They don't take reservations (as of 8/2006) Wish they would so everyone could have a shot at a weekend camping trip there, not just the locals who can zip in and set a few camping chairs on the sites on Thursday to claim it for the weekend. Says Melissa

My grandmother has camped there nearly every year for the past 30yrs and she got me addicted 9 years ago and now it's my tradition. It's clean, safe, and comfortable. It has some great trails, a perfect little beach, a very well-trained staff of rangers and volunteers, and if you stay just once you'll want to come back. I love Sherando Lake! And I'm coming back in just a few weeks! Says Rita

Back Creek - South River Tributary is a wonderful whitewater spot near Sherando Lake Campground; if you're dropping by from Roseland, you won't be the only

A normal amount of rainfall falls here at Sherando Lake Campground; August is when you get the most rain here, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Now, you may think that's a heap but there's even more exciting things to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There's always Sherando Dam to pop by in the vicinity of Sherando Lake Campground; there is a magnificent hiking trail close by called the Mills Creek Trail. This campground is so nice. There are good locations to discover along the Kennedy Ridge Trail, and going for a hike on the Turkey Pen Ridge Trail is always a tremendous adventure.
The surroundings of this campground have such an incredible array of things to offer. You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Wintergreen while you're here; on a lovely day you obtain a good panorama of Kelley Mountain from Sherando Lake Campground. The warmest time of the year at Sherando Lake Campground arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Sherando Lake Campground temperatures descend to the 10's. And if that's not enough there's lots more enjoyable things to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Near Sherando Lake Campground you come across the White Rock Gap Trail which is a good hiking trail, and get your pulse rate up on the magnificent whitewater of Tye River - North Fork.
