This campground has so many exciting things to offer. Heron Lake State Park is a good location to go if you're at Trout Lakes Campground, and if you come at the right time of year, Rio Chama offers
some wonderful whitewater. Trout Lakes Campground is pretty arid generally; August is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month is May. For the period of the summer months here at Trout Lakes Campground, high temperatures commonly get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. All through the wintertime the highs are usually in the 30's with temperatures at Trout Lakes Campground dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
While you're here at Trout Lakes Campground you will meet lots of folks from nearby Espanola,
 
and drift down the rapids of Rio Brazos in a kayak. This part of New Mexico is always a pleasure to stop at through camping season. Pajarito Mountain has glorious slopes and a friendly staff.
