Be careful coming to Rio las Vacas Campground, you might not ever wanna go back home again. There's a forest here at Rio las Vacas Campground called Cuba Ranger District, and don't leave Rio las Vacas Campground without first going for a hike along the Penas Negras Trail. Deer Mountain is available from Rio las Vacas Campground; there is a tremendous hiking trail close by called the Perchas Trail. Some of the water nearby flows, like Clear Creek; a glorious site to go to nearby is Windy Canyon. Rio las Vacas Campground is typically a relatively
dried up site; the month with most of the rain is August; April is the month with the least moisture. A campground like this is too good to miss. The Palomas Trail is a good hiking trail near Rio las Vacas Campground, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for
you then, we recommend Jemez River. So much amusing stuff to do here in the San Juan Mountains, too glorious to be true. Pajarito Mountain is a nice local ski area, and get your pulse rate up on the perfect whitewater of Rio Chama. This is a good campground. Going to Fenton Lake State Park in the vicinity of Rio las Vacas Campground is a splendid thing to do.
