There's a glorious 8-mile-from-start-to-finish type II-III whitewater sweep on Rio Grande close by, the Red River confluence to John Dunn Bridge section. It can be said that this sweep of Rio Grande is a place for fun paddling. Check circumstances in advance of a trip on the whitewater, otherwise it's not safe and sound. Good hiking is available along the Simpson Memorial Trail, and Taos is a very popular ski area close at hand. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
