Near Fawn Lakes Campground you hit upon the Lost Lake Trail which
 
is a splendid hiking trail, and Cimarron Canyon State Park is a great place to stretch your legs a bit. This is in fact a glorious campground. Going for a hike on the Burnt Ridge Trail is always a good adventure, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take a look at close by Fawn Lakes. There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Fawn Lakes Campground. On a great day at Fawn Lakes Campground you can take a hike along the Number 3 Lift Trail, and there are some great whitewater spots on Red River.
There's no way someone can get bored here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. There are nice locations to explore along the Simpson Memorial Trail, and an afternoon playing golf at Red Eagle Golf Course is always a pleasure. Fawn Lakes Campground is a location that is reasonably dry mostly; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
The Twining Blue Lake Trail is a brilliant hiking trail in the vicinity of Fawn Lakes Campground; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Rio Grande. Elephant Rock is an interesting spot to pop by while at Fawn Lakes Campground. At Fawn Lakes Campground exciting stuff to do is abundant, and what a fine site for camping it is.
