Jigger Johnson Campground 1, White Mountains, New Hampshire
|
| | I went to jigger johnson campground from the ages of 10-17. I love it up there. I used to go with my buddies family. I am in the military now and when I get out I plan on taking my fiance up there. Its a great place to relax and just chill out. Its the most peaceful and friendly environment imaginable. Says Jeffrey Tudisca
My husband, daughter and I recently spent a night at Jigger Johnson Campground while we were hiking in the White mountains. The tent site we chose was cozy, comfortable and clean, and best of all, the place had showers: individual |
|
sheds w/spacious shower rooms, separate tiled dressing rooms with hooks and a chair to keep clothes dry. At six minutes for $2.00, water was hot, w/nice pressure. Altogether, as satisfying an experience as possible for two citified ladies and more than adequate for a dad who bicycles
| | to work, backpacks in the wilderness & does not consider car camping roughing it. He only looks for flush toilets (which this spot also has, very clean, too) and other amenities when we are along. To him, facilities here luxurious. It was more peaceful than Dollycopp (sp) which is much larger & often hosts (albeit unintentionally) rowdy young weekenders who build bonfires and yell all night, warbling Rocky Mountain High offkey & then sleep all morning, when others get up to start hiking. I suspect they plan to climb Mt. Washington in their SUV's. Anyway, | |

the atmosphere at JJ was much more family-oriented, and tents-only sites just what we were looking for. Does anyone know who the origin of the name, Jigger Johnson? When we were there, I left a treasured book behind by mistake, on a picnic bench at the campsite, I believe. It
was a hardbound copy of Carl Sandburg poetry. If anyone found it, I would love to have it back...would gladly pay for postage. Address: 45 Lawton Road, Shirley, Ma. Tel:978-425-9848. Says M.E.Jones
