This is a primitive camp ground which naturally means that there are not too many facilities. When you go for a camping trip at a primitive campground such as this one you're in fact camping. Boulder River has a category II segment of whitewater close by. The 61-mile-long Bison Creek to Jefferson River segment is splendid to paddle. This segment of Boulder River is recommended for beginner kayak paddlers. Unsurprisingly,       whitewater kayaking or rafting is enjoyable but risky; check conditions prior to departure. A great site in the vicinity of Shamrock Campground is Bison Canyon; Great Divide is a wonderful local ski area. Shamrock Campground is not   far at all from Basin, and don't leave Shamrock Campground without first going for a hike along the Bear Gulch Trail. This is such a delightful campground. Take a little trip to Sawmill Creek while you're here at Shamrock Campground; you can go for a hike on the Upper Whitetail Park Trail.
