| | Some folks opt for this campground to be in close proximity to Painted Rocks State Park. Alta Campground is generally a rather dry spot; the wettest month of the year is generally May, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is July. This campground is a great location to stop by. Take a hike on the Coal Ridge Trail, and if you've had enough of Alta Campground, Painted Rocks Lake is nearby. natural beauty of this area, and if you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Panther Creek.

| Rocks State Park is a great site.
The Bitterroot Range scenery is always striking. If the weather is tremendous here at Alta Campground, you can go for a hike along the Castle Rock Trail; there's some flowing water nearby, Hughes Creek is a stream you can have a look at during your stay. At Alta Campground cool stuff to do is bountiful, and it's one of those spots where everything is great.
