This primitive campground is to be found in an extraordinarily stunning setting; getting to this primitive campground can be a bit difficult, but it's well worth it. Dutchman Flat Campground is situated in an area with a lot of fun stuff to do, and it is a very good campground. A visit to Idaho is not complete without some camping. A lot of folks stay here for the purpose of being right next door to Challis National Forest. All the magnificent local attractions close at hand and such an incredible array of things to do are delightful motives to come. | | close at hand such as hiking, whitewater paddling, swimming, and fishing, so it's completely out of the question to get bored. Salmon River has a grade IV stretch of whitewater nearby. The 14-mile-long Sunbeam Dam to Holman Creek section is tremendous to raft. The Sunbeam Dam to Holman Creek section of Salmon River is appropriate for paddlers who have been paddling for some time but who are not yet prepared for the genuinely treacherous rapids. Don't go paddling in advance of first checking current conditions; it's treacherous stuff. Places like Challis National Forest are nice to stop at, and why not a little side trip to Elk Creek. River Mountains. Sunbeam Dam is wonderful and it's next to Dutchman Flat Campground, and don't leave Dutchman Flat Campground without first going for a hike along the Bull Moose Trail.
