Lake Conasauga Campground, Georgia
|
| | After camping and hosting at Lake Conasauga for the last few years I am very upset about the way people are treating the facilities offered there. As this area grows in popularity, and more and more people use it, I am saddened by the way this beautiful lake and mountian is being abused and trashed. The catch phrase ''Leave only your footprints'' applies to all US National Forests for a reason. One can only assume that you use this camping area for it's beauty and freshness, so why then do so many people leave it in such a mess? To have to pick up over |
|
50 bags of trash, often left scattered about after a non-holiday weekend, is unreasonable. I don't mean to rant or nag, but, it isn't that hard to put a grocery bag in you pocket when fishing along the lake trail and walk out with the trash you create. The hosts in most camp grounds
| are volunteers and are unpaid. They pay for all of their own expenses to be there in order to keep the grounds and restrooms clean and stocked. So, PLEASE, read and obey the rules posted. Few places are as beautiful as our National Parks, please lets all make that small effort to keep them that way. Thank you. Says Mary Beth Underwood
Going for a hike on the Cloer Trail is always a good adventure, and Lake Conasauga Campground is in close proximity to Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park which is a delightful location. Drift down the rapids | |

of Conasauga River in a kayak; close by you find the Conasauga River Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail. This is a great campground. Lakes are such serene sites, why not stop by Conasauga Lake close to Lake Conasauga Campground, and there are plenty of people from Cisco here.
Man, is there plenty of amusing things to do next to Lake Conasauga Campground. Get wet paddling on Mill Creek, and the Grassy Mountain Tower Trail is a great hiking trail close by. Whitewater paddling is fine on Holly Creek, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Emery
Creek Trail. At Lake Conasauga Campground through the summertime highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Lake Conasauga Campground. There's some exciting
stuff to spot at Conasauga Lake Dam close to Lake Conasauga Campground, and if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Songbird Trail. This campground is so great. You absolutely should visit Fort Mountain State Park while you're here at Lake Conasauga Campground,
and Little Bald Mountain is clearly visible from Lake Conasauga Campground. Lake Conasauga Campground is a wet place that gets a good deal of rain; the wettest month of the year is frequently March, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is October.
