Since you're here at Vallecito Campground why not stop at Dark Canyon; there are nice places to look at along the Whitehead Trail. At Vallecito Campground you don’t see much rain; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is June.   This is no place for people who don’t like to have fun. There are some good whitewater spots on Animas River; the slopes of Silverton are so inviting noone can resist. If you come to this campground, you will have a delightful time for sure. Go for a hike on the Deer Park Trail, and sites like Navajo Lake State Park are delightful to check out. Whohoo, so much amusing stuff in one place! The San Juan Mountains rules!
