Smokehouse Campground is right next door to Sweitzer State Park which is a beautiful place; on a good day you can take a hike along the Fortyseven and Meadow Trail. You're sure to come across some smiling people from Montrose here, and there is a wonderful hiking trail close by called the Fortyseven Trail. Smokehouse Campground is positioned in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. A number of people camp here for the purpose of being near Uncompahgre National Forest. Coming to this campground is always a tremendous idea. There are some glorious whitewater spots on Escalante Creek; nearby   you come across the Ray Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail. Smokehouse Campground is a location that is pretty dehydrated commonly; through August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is June. Having a good time in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is easy. There's whitewater on San Miguel River for all you adrenaline junkies; Grassy Lake is a nearby lake that you could stop at. Throughout the warm months at Smokehouse Campground temperatures are ordinarily in the 90's, and the nighttime is somewhat cooler of course, typically in the 60's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and night lows at Smokehouse Campground all through the winter ordinarily fall into the 10's. This campground is a tremendous location to go to. If you come at the right time of year, San Miguel River offers some tremendous whitewater, and going for a hike along the Grassy Lake Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. So many local attractions and such a brilliant variety of outdoors recreation will certainly have you coming back repeatedly.
