Reservoir Dam is gorgeous and it's near Portal Campground, and one of the dominant traits of the surroundings of Portal Campground is Independence Mountain. There's more to do near Portal Campground other than just hanging out such as fishing, swimming, hiking, and whitewater
paddling, so getting bored is not something that is likely to happen. At Portal Campground through the summertime highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 40's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's; overnight lows through the wintertime
for Portal Campground tend to be in the 0's. Going for a hike on the Timberline Trail is always a splendid adventure, and you can run the rapids of Lake Creek. Portal Campground is a location that is relatively dry regularly; August is the wettest month with most rain; February is when it's the driest.
