The Red Mountain Trail is a tremendous hiking trail in close proximity to Winfrey Campgrounds, and the fine folks of Dunlap like to hang out nearby. From a rainfall point of view Winfrey Campgrounds is a quite common place; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is July.

There's some flowing water nearby, Verplank Creek is a stream you can explore during your stay, and a great spot nearby is Verplank Saddle.

Sierra Summit has magnificent slopes and a friendly staff; if the weather is magnificent, you can go for a hike along the Deep Creek Trail. Summer at Winfrey Campgrounds arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 40's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Winfrey Campgrounds are in the 20's.
