In general this run of Mattole River is an amusing place for whitewater paddling. You must check restrictions before you go; whitewater paddling   may become risky. A gorgeous great outdoors trail in the neighborhood, 2.2 miles from beginning to end, with an elevation difference of 1,399 feet is Lightning Trail. This great outdoors trail, the Lightning Trail is a difficult backcountry hike that requires approximately three hours.
