Upper Blue Lake Campground, Northern Sierra Nevada, California Custom Search   We camped at Upper Blue Lake on 8/20/11. It is a really beautiful place and we had a great day. The night, however, was a different story. The campground does not have bear boxes and our attempt at hiding our food was unsuccessful. It was difficult to sleep in a tent while two bears were just feet away eating all of our food. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep and left as soon as we could pack everything up in the morning because we had nothing to eat.       If we had known that there were no bear boxes we either would not have gone at all, or we would have not taken a truck. It appeared as though the other campers who drove SUV's didn't have issues with bears. Says Tracy Me   the wife and in laws went to the Upper Blue lake dam site, and it was amazing. The care takers were more than nice. Very clean sites, some close (group camping) some with a large space between. Forrest and granite mountains with water falls leading to the river very beautiful. This primitive campground is situated in an extremely       beautiful site, and getting to this primitive campground could be rather hard, but it's well worth it. Loads of people pick this campground for the purpose of being in close proximity to Grover Hot Springs State Park. As if Upper   Blue Lake Campground wasn't sufficient, you can also go playing golf, hiking, fishing, swimming, and whitewater paddling, so running out of amusing things to do won’t happen.
