Girard Trail in the vicinity is 5.1 miles from beginning to end and has a tremendous 3,407-foot variation in altitude; it's a pretty backcountry trail. Hiking the Girard Trail, a hard backcountry trail, calls for more or less one day. A great view of delightful Silver Peak is available from Silver Peak Campground, and there is a great hiking trail close by called the Arroyo Seco Trail.
