Shriner Lake Campground, Northern Sierra Nevada, California

| | Since Shriner Lake is at the top of a ridge. It nearly dries up in the later summer months and due to it's remoteness, is a watering hole for every critter (read: bears and pumas included).
The trail takes an hour minimum to walk EACH WAY and plan on getting eaten alive by the mosquitoes during the first 3/4 mile that climbs over 700feet through the woods. You can't go fast, the elevation takes your breath away if you're not used to it and mosquitoes | |

like the cover of the brush and the fact that you can't move faster than 2mph here. There IS a great view of Mokelumne Peak, but one that can be seen from the highway (slightly further away and just slightly different angle) without
| | | the hour long hike and suspension demolishing drive from Hiway 88 to the trailhead.
Oh, and the resorts at Kirkwood are technically only around 10 miles away... As the crow flies. Travel time between - more like 2 1/4 hours. In all honesty, the only good thing about Shriner Lake is that, since it really has nothing to offer except the seclusion that NO AMMENITIES within MILES .

mud next to the water. Mosquitos are HUGE and plentiful. Bear Valley ski resort is almost three hours away - more if you count the fact that it's about an hour hike out of Shriner lake to the trailhead and then another hour out

Kirkwood Meadow Ski Resort is closer by at least 1. 5 hours.
Salt Springs Resevoir? From Shriner Lake to Salt Springs you're looking at an hour hike and a minimum of a two hour drive. And that's if you know the roads and shorcuts which, by the way, are not suitable for ''highway cars''. Says Trevor
There are a few fire rings and I am sure it is a lovely spot to camp. It is a 1.6 mile hike from the Tanglefoot trail head. There are no facilities... but a very pretty little lake Says Anonymous
