Sespe Creek is a great whitewater spot near Mesa Spring Campground, and delightful hiking is available along the Cedar Lake Trail. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing things in the Sierra Madre. The sights at Channel Islands National Park will blow your mind, and you absolutely should have a look at Fort Tejon State Park since you're here. That right there is heaps of fun things already but it goes on, the Sierra Madre has it all. There's pleasant hiking along the Chorro Grande Trail; Cerro Noroeste can be made out from Mesa Spring Campground.
