This portion of Black Butte River is recommended for expert paddlers only. Don't go whitewater rafting   or kayaking before first checking conditions; it's dangerous stuff. Buttermilk Trail is a charming close by trail; it has an elevation variation of 1,097 feet and is 1.2 miles long. Being an average trail, backpacking the Buttermilk Trail takes something like two hours.
