There's some flowing water nearby, Middle Creek is a stream you can go to while here, and Border Ruffian Flat is a great place to stretch your legs a bit. If you don't mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Carson River - East Fork; since you're here you can take a hike along the Hawley Grade Trail.
