Going for a hike on the Elk Camp Ridge Trail is always a tremendous adventure, and there's whitewater on Smith River - South Fork for all you thrill seekers. During the warm months at Big Flat Campground highs are ordinarily in the 60's. During the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. During   the wintertime the highs are typically in the 50's; nighttime lows at Big Flat Campground through the wintertime mostly drop into the 30's. This place, the Coast Ranges, has so much outdoors exciting things. If you want a little side tour, try Haydens Gulch, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Summit Valley Trail. The high level of rain makes Big Flat Campground a quite wet place; the wettest month of the year is regularly December, that's the one that rains the most, and July is the month with the least moisture.
